Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate in these classes?
Classes are designed for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced artists. They’re especially suited for adults in 55+ communities who want a structured, skill-building program. We tailor instruction so every participant can progress at their own pace, gain confidence, and achieve professional-quality results.

Do participants need any experience or prior skills?
No prior experience is necessary—classes are designed for all skill levels. Participants can build skills at their own pace.

What types of art classes do you offer?
A wide variety of media is available, including drawing, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, pastels, printmaking, bookbinding, arts & crafts, and more. Classes are fully instructional and can be customized to meet the needs and interests of each community.

Can classes be customized for our community’s interests?
Absolutely! Projects, media, and themes can be designed to match residents’ skill levels and interests. Because these are instructional art classes, starting with the Intro to Art Series is highly recommended. This foundational program teaches essential skills such as drawing, shading, perspective, composition, and color theory, providing the building blocks for advanced media like watercolor, acrylic, oil, or printmaking. Starting with the basics ensures participants gain confidence and achieve the best results in all future classes.

Do you provide materials?
Yes! A range of art supplies from student-grade to professional-grade is provided, carefully selected to help participants achieve the best results. Participants are also welcome to bring and use their own materials.

How materials are handled:

  • Reusable supplies: Easels, paints, brushes, and other key tools are brought to each session and taken back afterward for reuse in future classes.

  • Session-specific supplies: Certain items may be purchased per session to keep costs down.

  • Community-owned supplies: For communities with shared spaces or art rooms, it’s possible to build a set of supplies that residents can use while the instructor isn’t there. Supplies can be customized for class type, community needs, and participants’ interests. Most items are reusable and designed for long-term use, and the set can be built to work within your budget.

How long are the classes?
Sessions are typically 2 hours but can be customized for single workshops (3–4 hours), multi-week series, or ongoing programs. This flexibility ensures each class meets the community’s needs while providing a structured, skill-building experience.

How many participants can join a class?
Classes are designed for small, personalized groups to ensure hands-on instruction. The standard rate covers 8–15 participants, and larger groups can be accommodated for a slightly higher rate, ensuring every participant receives professional guidance and attention.

Are ongoing programs available?
Yes! Classes are designed as progressive instructional programs, allowing participants to start with foundational skills and advance through different media. Communities can schedule single sessions, multi-week series, or full programs to create a structured, skill-building experience that grows with participants’ abilities.

Are classes safe and accessible?
Classes are designed to be safe and accessible for all participants. Instruction accommodates mobility or physical limitations when needed.

Can classes be combined with special events or themed programs?
Yes! Art classes can be incorporated into themed events, celebrations, or holiday programs, with projects tailored to the occasion.

What is the cost of a class?
Rates vary depending on group size, session length, and program type. Pricing includes instruction and most art supplies. Custom quotes are available for ongoing programs, multi-week series, or special workshops.

How do participants sign up?
For most community classes, no prior sign-up is needed—participants can simply attend the session at the scheduled time. If a class is particularly popular, a sign-up through the community director may be helpful. Sign-up requirements can vary depending on the location or type of event. For private events, workshops, or classes held at restaurants or businesses, registration may be required through the host or directly with Studio Agnew.

Where are the classes held?
Classes are brought directly to the community or private group location—no travel required. Onsite Sessions can be held in lifestyle rooms, community centers, or other available spaces, with set-up tailored to the environment. A room with a sink is preferred to make clean-up and materials management easier.

What if a class needs to be rescheduled or canceled?
Classes may be rescheduled in advance. Cancellation policies vary depending on the program type—details are provided at booking.
